Richmond City Councillor Andy Hobbs is celebrating the next generation of community leaders following this year’s U-ROC (Recognizing Outstanding Citizens) Awards, offering special congratulations to one remarkable recipient whose commitment to leadership has been evident for years.
Reflecting on the event, Councillor Hobbs shared his admiration for award recipient Steph, whose dedication to serving others has made a lasting impression on the Richmond community.
“Fantastic to see Steph recognized for her leadership… which she’s been doing since she was about seven years old.”
The comment captured not only the significance of receiving a U-ROC Award but also the years of commitment that often precede such recognition. While awards celebrate achievements, they also acknowledge the countless hours of volunteering, mentoring, and community involvement that frequently begin long before public recognition arrives.
The U-ROC Awards honour young people in Richmond who demonstrate outstanding leadership, volunteerism, and service to their community. Each year, the awards recognize youth who go above and beyond to make Richmond a stronger, more inclusive, and compassionate place to live.
Councillor Hobbs noted that Steph’s recognition is an example of how leadership develops over time through consistent action, kindness, and a willingness to help others.
“Community leadership isn’t measured by a single accomplishment,” Hobbs said. “It’s built through years of showing up, supporting others, and making a positive difference. Steph has demonstrated those qualities from a very young age, and it’s wonderful to see that dedication recognized.”
Hobbs also praised all of this year’s U-ROC recipients and nominees, emphasizing that Richmond’s future is bright because of the young people who choose to volunteer, lead, and inspire others.
“The U-ROC Awards remind us that some of our community’s greatest strengths come from its youth,” he said. “These young leaders are already making meaningful contributions to Richmond, and they are setting an outstanding example for others to follow.”
As Richmond continues to grow, programs such as the U-ROC Awards play an important role in recognizing the contributions of young citizens whose efforts often take place quietly behind the scenes. By celebrating their achievements, the community reinforces the importance of service, leadership, and civic engagement.
Councillor Andy Hobbs extended his congratulations to Steph and to every U-ROC Award recipient, thanking them for their commitment to making Richmond an even better place to live. Their enthusiasm, compassion, and dedication, he said, demonstrate that the city’s future is in capable hands.
