RICHMOND, BC — Richmond City Councillor Andy Hobbs joined thousands of residents and visitors in Steveston on Canada Day to celebrate one of the community’s most cherished traditions—the annual Steveston Salmon Festival. The festival once again brought together families, friends, volunteers, community organizations, musicians and performers for a day filled with Canadian pride, entertainment and community spirit.
“Richmond’s Canada Day celebrations showcase everything that makes our city special,” said Hobbs. “From the incredible volunteers who make this event possible, to the talented musicians and performers who kept the crowds entertained throughout the day, the Steveston Salmon Festival continues to be one of the best community celebrations anywhere in Canada.”
The festival featured its traditional Canada Day parade, family activities, cultural displays, live entertainment and the famous Salmon Bake that has become synonymous with the event. Thousands lined the streets of historic Steveston Village to celebrate Canada’s birthday and enjoy a day of community pride and friendship.
Hobbs offered special praise for the many performers who took the stage throughout the day.
“The bands were absolutely fantastic,” he said. “Richmond is fortunate to have such talented performers contributing to our community celebrations. If you had the chance to see Tina perform, you know exactly what I mean—what an outstanding show and a tremendous performance.”
The Steveston Salmon Festival, now in its 79th year, remains one of Richmond’s largest and most beloved annual events, attracting tens of thousands of people and celebrating both Canada Day and Steveston’s rich maritime heritage.
“Thank you to the organizers, volunteers, sponsors, performers, first responders and everyone who came out to celebrate,” said Hobbs. “Canada Day is a time to reflect on what unites us as Canadians, and today Richmond once again demonstrated the strength, diversity and community spirit that make our city such a wonderful place to live.”
