Richmond United announces first two council candidates ahead of 2026 election
Andy Hobbs to seek re-election; Mike Gill joins team for upcoming campaign

RICHMOND, B.C. – March 5, 2026 – Richmond United is announcing its first two candidates for the 2026 municipal election, with Councillor Andy Hobbs seeking re-election and local business owner Mike Gill running for the first time.
First elected in the 2021 by-election and re-elected in 2022, Hobbs has prioritized public safety, responsible growth and sound fiscal management on Council. He now looks to use that experience as he runs for a second term. He previously served for more than three decades with the Vancouver Police Department, retiring as Superintendent of North Command.
“I care deeply about this community,” says Hobbs. “Richmond is changing, and we need leadership that understands both the opportunities and the challenges ahead. I’m running again to keep working on the issues that matter most to our community.”
Gill brings experience as a healthcare professional and small-business owner. A lifelong Richmond resident, he has owned and operated a local optometry clinic for more than 13 years and has coached youth sports for over a decade.
“I’ve built my business here and raised my family here,” said Gill. “When I talk to patients, parents and other business owners, I hear the same concerns about safety, affordability and the future of our neighbourhoods. I want to be part of the solution at City Hall.”
Richmond United will focus the campaign on practical, community-driven priorities and will be sharing more details in the coming months.
