Outstanding youth achievements were celebrated in Richmond this week as students, families and community leaders gathered at the Gateway Theatre for the annual UROC Awards ceremony.
The event recognized young people from across the city for their leadership, volunteerism, academic achievement and contributions to the community. Organized by Richmond’s youth leadership networks and community partners, the ceremony highlighted the positive impact local youth continue to make throughout the city.
Award recipients were honoured in several categories recognizing excellence in community service, arts, athletics, cultural leadership and social advocacy. Teachers, mentors and family members applauded students for their dedication and commitment to helping others both inside and outside the classroom.
Community speakers praised Richmond youth for their resilience, creativity and willingness to lead on important issues affecting their generation.
“This evening is about celebrating the incredible young people who make Richmond stronger,” one presenter told the audience. “Their leadership and compassion are shaping the future of our community.”
The evening also featured student performances, multimedia presentations and reflections from past award recipients who encouraged younger students to remain engaged in community service and leadership opportunities.
Held annually at Gateway Theatre, the UROC Awards have become an important tradition recognizing youth excellence and fostering civic pride throughout Richmond.
