Families and seniors gathered in Richmond this past weekend for a special Mother’s Day luncheon and health fair hosted by the Richmond Chinese Community Society, celebrating mothers while promoting wellness and community connection.
The event brought together residents of all ages for an afternoon of cultural performances, health information booths and a traditional community lunch. Richmond councillor Andy Hobbs attended the gathering, greeting guests and recognizing the important role mothers and seniors play in strengthening the community.
Organizers said the event was designed not only to celebrate Mother’s Day, but also to provide accessible health and wellness resources for local families and older adults. Attendees were able to connect with healthcare professionals, receive wellness information and participate in community outreach activities throughout the afternoon.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate family, culture and healthy living,” Hobbs said during remarks to attendees. “Events like this help bring the Richmond community together and support the wellbeing of residents of all ages.”
The luncheon featured live entertainment, community recognition awards and traditional performances that reflected Richmond’s diverse Chinese Canadian community. Volunteers and local organizations also provided information on seniors’ services, healthy lifestyles and community support programs.
Guests praised the welcoming atmosphere and strong sense of community spirit, with many families attending together to honour mothers and grandmothers during the celebration.
Organizers say the annual Mother’s Day event continues to grow each year, helping foster cultural connection, health awareness and community engagement throughout Richmond.
